Agri Tourism is gaining a foothold in pendleton county, wv
We are proud that we are an agri tourism destination in the County.
In 2020 Jeff started distilling and crafting some excellent 'shine at Dry Run Spirits! In 2021 he began selling the distillery's small batch, copper pot still apple moonshine, apple brandy. Crafted here from our apples, just as the Pitsenbargers used to do it! In 2021 and 2022 he distilled maple sap from our own trees to make special limited batches of maple moonshine and maple nectar liqueur (not flavored - this is maple from tree to bottle)! Come try some truly remarkable 'shine. Tastings are complimentary - it's a good idea to make an appointment. Afterwards you are welcome to hike our trails, and tour the historic Pitsenbarger homestead.
We hosted our first farm to table brunch in 2021 (Chef Donnie Orr). It was a fabulous feast, featuring local smoked trout, produce, buckwheat from WV and more! Since then, we've enjoyed Chef Matt Welsch's assistance with other dinners.
Here on our farm, we have lots of old growth apple trees and in 2020 we added a new 30 tree orchard (cuttings from our old trees were grafted onto new root stock). We also pick pears, peaches, berries and forage for mushrooms in season. We grow hops and lavender, and in 2020 we started maple syrup production - tapping our own huge maple trees. When possible we use our produce in jellies, sauces and other dishes. We frequently use our flowers to decorate for events.
A number of area fests celebrate the riches of our area. Next door Highland County VA hosts the Maple Festival and Heart and Hands in the Fall. Our local town, Franklin WV, hosts the springtime Trout Fest and Treasure Mountain Festival in the fall. We participate in the WV wide Mountain State Maple Days in Feb and March. We have several vendors selling locally produced items, and a Saturday Farmer's Market in the Summertime in Franklin.
Here are some businesses which feature local food, or offer AgriTourism-related classes or events:
